My government in partnership with MSF–Doctors Without Borders have launched a sixteen (16) days of activism campaign against gender-based violence at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, in Komarock Ward, Embakasi West constituency.
The campaign dubbed “Tuungane Tuangamize Ubakaji na Unajisi” was officially unveiled by the acting CECM Health, Mercy Kamau at the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital.
The sixteen (16) days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence is a campaign aimed at eliminating all forms of violence against women by raising awareness about gender-based violence as a human rights issue at all levels, strengthening local work around violence against women, establishing a clear link between local and international work to end violence against women, providing a forum for which organizers can develop and share new and effective strategies, demonstrating the solidarity of women around the world and channelling modalities to the Government towards implementing laws on violence against women.
The rate at which gender violence is rising in the country is alarming. 21% of women have undergone sexual violence with 60% having being assaulted but have never been reported.
Well done and thank you to MSF- Doctors Without Borders who have also set up capacity building centres in Bahati and Makadara Health centers.
